Recycle with LTS Recycling
Justin Michau, Founder and Group Managing Director of LTS commented on the news:
“I am absolutely thrilled to have secured funding from the Automotive Transformation Fund, not just because it allows us to progress with our feasibility study, but also for what this means for innovation. Throughout my career I have worked at the cutting edge of the automotive industry and am thrilled to be able to progress with our plans to deliver one of the UK’s first recycling plants for batteries. It comes at a crucial time for the sector, with the intention for all new vehicles to be electric by 2030, and EVs taking a larger market share than at any other point in history.”
Lord Grimstone of Boscobel Kt, former Minister for Investment at the Department for International Trade and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said:
“This funding, delivered through the government-backed Advanced Propulsion Centre, will support UK businesses at the cutting edge of the automotive industry to trial the very latest tech, from the development of electric motorbikes to off-road trucks.
Supporting these strategically important technologies lays the path for our electric vehicle sector to compete on a global scale, driving jobs and growth nationwide whilst also creating cleaner, more sustainable modes of transport.”
Ian Constance, Chief Executive of the Advanced Propulsion Centre said:
“We’re really interested to see the outcomes of LTS Transport Solution’s feasibility study.
To fully decarbonise the automotive sector, we have to transition the EV supply chain at scale and pace and this study will explore opportunities for the UK to rapidly grow manufacturing in some of the most globally advanced and in-demand vehicle technologies, which in turn will lead to highly skilled jobs and green growth.”
The shredding plant
Ensure that we create no additional waste, create a circular economy around the strategical metals and protect our environment in our quest for carbon neutral economies.
Hydrometallurgical capabilities
Recover the cathode materials and metal salts to go back into the supply chain. The recycling efficiency will be 85% and include an electrolyte recovery step.
The aim
is to ensure that we create no additional waste, create a circular economy around the strategical metals and protect our environment in our quest for carbon neutral economies.
The primarily focus
of the plant would be electric vehicle batteries, however, would also provide for mobile phone and other batteries.
We desperately need more industry on the Island to replace those lost jobs, and with the rapidly growing move towards electric vehicles, in order to achieve Net Zero targets, an EV battery recycling plant will become increasingly important
